There are three fundamental pillars of Shu Uemura that are vital to the company’s brand identity, the first of which is cutting-edge makeup artistry.

The brand is dedicated to “ empowering Asian millennials for self-expression.” With products created and designed in Japan, Shu Uemura promotes a diverse beauty standard regardless of cultural background, age, or gender-now that’s a mission we can get behind. As the very first Japanese makeup artist to work in Hollywood, he set out to “ liberate beauty with his…unimaginable creativity.” That creativity resulted in a collection of innovative formulas that have won an unimaginable number of awards over the years. All reviews are always 100% my honest experience with the product.Shu Uemura, the creator of the brand, was born in Tokyo in 1928. So that’s all for now!! Comment below if you’ve tried the Shu Uemura Hard Formula Brow Pencil and if you liked it or not! If not, what are your favourite products for on-point brows?ĭisclaimer: Product was purchased by me. Overall, I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good brow pencil! The price may seem a bit steep for a brow pencil initially but it lasts for ages! I had my first one for over a year (with daily use!) and recently repurchased my second one!! I also find it suitable for both girls with fuller brows who are looking to enhance their natural brows, or those who have sparser brows and need to fill them in but in a natural way. The colour 05 Stone Gray is also my perfect colour match.

It’s hard to explain but it might just be my aesthetic but I like the Korean straight brow look and I prefer for my brows to look natural but full and kind of “fluffy”? The Shu pencil just looks super natural and my brows never look overdone or drawn on. This is hands down my HG brow pencil and I will continue to stick to this for as long as I fill in my brows! I’ve actually tried many other brow products which were alright but none of them gave me the same natural “just right” look as the Shu does. Overall though, the wear is pretty good and the product never “migrates” or smudges on its own. However, it isn’t necessarily smudge-proof so if you happen to wipe at your brows for some reason than the colour will fade (this happened to me and I was walking around with half an eyebrow oops!). I also find it to be pretty long-lasting and water-resistant throughout a typical school/work day and still looks good when I get home after about 9+ hours of wear. Some might say it’s not really “pigmented” for this reason but I find that for natural looking brows this is perfect because it is hard to overdo it. The formulation does take some getting used to initially as it is quite hard and deposits the colour very minimally. The Wear: I find this brow pencil to be incredibly natural looking for day to day wear and perfect if you prefer a natural soft fuller brow look. The colour never looks “muddy” or overdone on me.

Despite being called “gray”, this is more of a cool tone dark brown with slight gray tones which is a perfect match for those with black hair or darker brown hair. My shade is in 05 Stone Gray and it matches my black/dark brown hair perfectly. What really impresses me is how natural the shades are and how perfectly they match my eyebrows and hair. The Shade: I find the shade range to be quite accommodating for various hair colours and complexions.

Personally I find that it’s worth it to get it sharpened at a counter because I do find it easier to draw my brows with the samurai style point, but if you can’t be bothered, a regular pencil sharpener will work just as well. Additionally, if you want to keep it in the samurai sword shape (which is part of the appeal of this pencil) then you will need to go to a Shu counter and have them sharpen it for you (this is a complementary service!). The Design: The Shu Uemura brow pencil is a sleek pencil design which does need to be sharpened which could be an inconvenience for some people. The pencil comes in six shades and retails for around AUD $29-34 (depending on where you go). The colour doesn’t show up when you try to swatch it on your hand! The tip of the brow pencil is sharpened into a style that resembles a samurai sword, which is meant to make drawing brows easier, more precise and natural. The Shu Uemura Hard Formula is a unique brow pencil that only deposits colour when used on the brows and mixes with the natural oils in the brows. With that being said, today I will be reviewing the Shu Uemura Hard Formula H9 Eyebrow Pencil in the shade 05 Stone Gray. Whilst this isn’t really a makeup blog, I thought I would review one of my HG makeup products of all time and also since brows are a really important part of my routine. I’ve been super busy with university and so I haven’t posted in the longest time!!! But it’s finally Summer holidays (here in Australia!) so I plan to post more reviews.
